Hymns

Lord, I Love You主啊我愛您

Rev. Dr. David Tsang

All three verses open on the same line and part only at the last word — the friend of years, the gladness of the heart, the refuge of a life.

4/4 · Words and music by David Tsang · 1985

Some of this hymn is still being read from the handwriting. Anything marked 〔?〕 is a character the score has not yet settled, and the lines noted below are not yet transcribed. The family is checking these against the original sheet.

Opening

1 · Lord, I love you; you are the friend I have known for years.
2 · Lord, I love you; you are the gladness in my heart.
3 · Lord, I love you; you are the refuge of my life.

知己 is the friend you never have to explain yourself to. 歸依 is the word for taking refuge — the place a life finally rests.

Second section

1 · How gentle, and how 〔?〕 …
2 · Since you came into my heart, my life …
3 · Always together with you, my heart …

Refrain

Ah — I have come to love you, come to love you, love you!

The character after 溫柔與 will not resolve from this scan: it reads somewhere between 翠, 罩 and 罣, none of which follows. The likely intent is 體諒, “understanding,” but the column holds one character, not two. The lines between the second section and the refrain are not yet transcribed.
