The one hymn in this group he did not set himself: the words are his, the melody is Tam Chung-kwong’s. The second verse turns on 破釜沉舟 — smashing the cauldrons and sinking the boats, the classical idiom for destroying your own line of retreat.

I have burned my boats and do not regret it, and follow straight on where the Lord leads.

Since I saw the Lord’s face, I no longer live to make money;
the whole world is my workplace, and I will carry the gospel through all of it.
