The Rationality of Missions宣道之理

His handbook for the evangelist, in eight parts of forty topics — bringing people to the Lord, giving oneself to serve, the growth of life, spreading the gospel widely, preaching the holy word, matching the name to the reality, judging matters by the word, and bearing much fruit. Each topic is held under twelve hundred characters. He says in the closing words that he wrote it “like one setting words to a tune, using not one word more than needed.”
傳福音者之手冊，共八篇四十題——引人歸主、委身事主、生命成長、廣傳福音、傳講聖言、名符其實、以道論事、多結果子。每題不逾一千二百字。他在結語中說，寫此書「有如填詞，盡量不多用一字」。
The reasoning is worked out from the Hebrew and the Greek throughout, and argued as often from Chinese learning as from Scripture: Qu Yuan on the man at the end of himself, the Family Instructions of Master Zhu set line by line beside the passages they echo, the character 忍 read as a blade over the heart. He writes plainly of what it cost him — holding his daughter down for the injections that saved her, and hearing in her uncomprehending plea the cry from the cross.
全書據希伯來文與希臘文立論，引中華學問與引聖經一樣多：屈原「人窮則反本」、《朱子家訓》逐句與相合之經文並列、「忍」字釋為心上插刀。他也坦言己身之代價——為救女兒而按住她打針，在她不解之求饒中，想起十架上的那一聲呼喊。
「願筆者在此所拋之『磚』能引未來成熟傳道者之『玉』。」“May the ‘brick’ the writer throws out here draw in the ‘jade’ of the mature preachers to come.” Closing words.
Source and editions原稿與版本
The Chinese is his own manuscript, held in the family archive under the filename 曉之以1.doc — a label that does not match its contents; the manuscript itself is 宣道之理. It carries a foreword by Tong Yau-chi, written beside the Golden Gate Bridge at the new year of 2006, his own preface, a conclusion, the works he consulted, an appendix and his author note.
中文為家中檔案所存之原稿，檔名作「曉之以1.doc」，與內容不符，原稿實為《宣道之理》。書首有唐佑之序，二〇〇六年新春序於美國三藩市金門橋畔；另有自序、結語、參考資料、附錄及作者介紹。
Translated from the Chinese in September 2026. His scripture references are printed as he wrote them, except in seven places where the reference as printed cannot be the passage he quotes — among them 2 Corinthians 15:19 and Hebrews 12:37, neither of which exists. There the English gives the passage and says in brackets what the source prints.
二〇二六年九月由中文譯出。書中經文出處一概按他所寫保留，惟七處所印之出處與所引經文不符——如林後15:19、來12:37，二者皆無此章節——英譯則列出所引經文，並於方括號內註明原稿所印。
The English title is his own, from the author note he wrote in English at the end of 棄偽存真.
